Procedures for Residence Permit
International Students who wish to obtain a residence permit for the first time in accordance with the protocol signed between the Presidency of the Higher Education Council and the General Directorate of Migration Management must apply for residence permit within thirty (30) workdays from the date of registration.
Delivery of Residence Application Documents
A "Cooperation Protocol on Residence Permit Applications of International Students" was signed between the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Directorate General of Migration Management under the Ministry of Interior on November 15, 2023.
Within the scope of this protocol, international associate and undergraduate students studying at our university are required to submit the documents listed below to the International Student Office of the Registrar`s Office Department without waiting for the appointment date after completing their "student residence permit" application at https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr.
Requested documents;
1- Application form from e-residence;
Description: This form is created by the system through the e-Residence Website. The printout of the form must be printed and signed by the international student.
2- Copy of the passport or the document substituting passport;
Description: A passport or the travel document substituting a passport that is sixty days longer than the requested residence permit period. The original of the passport must be presented at the time of delivery of the documents. A copy of both the front page of the passport, which is the page with the personal information, and the passport`s entry and exit seal.
3- Four (4) photos;
Description: Photos taken within the last 6 months, in biometric size and the background should be white.
4- Health insurance;
Description: Only one of the following types of health insurance to be submitted is acceptable.
a) E-signed documents or signed and stamped/sealed documents obtained from provincial social security units that say they benefit from health services in Turkey within the scope of bilateral social security contracts;
b) E-signed authorization certificate from the Social Security Institution or signed and stamped/sealed authorization document;
c) E-signed document or signed and sealed document on the application made to benefit from general health insurance to the Social Security Institution. (According to Law No. 5510, international students can be covered by General Health Insurance if they apply within 3 months from the date of registration.)
d) Private Health Insurance: Private health insurance should include the statement "This policy covers the minimum collateral structure set out in the circular on private health insurance sewage dated 10/05/2016 and to be made on visa and residence permit requests no. 16/2016".
5- Student certificate;
Description: You can get from the student affairs office of the Faculty/College/Vocational School you are enrolled in.
6- Document showing address information;
Description: About address information; international students should present a document on where they are staying in our country (rent, dormitory, pension, etc.) and it should be clear and direct that the person is staying at that address. (For example, if an international student is staying in the dormitory, the signed/stamped document he will receive from the dormitory administration; if he remains as a tenant, the notarized lease agreement; if he stays with others, the contract to be issued in the presence of a notary or; In other cases, such a document should be presented.)
7- Receipt of the residence permit card fee payment;
Description: International students should pay this fee to authorized finance treasurers or authorized banks and add the receipt to the application form.
8- If the applicant is under 18 years of age;
a) Consent: His parents must allow the international student to study and live in Türkiye, including a certificate of consent issued by the competent authorities in his/her country. However, it will not be requested if the parents are residing legally in our country.)
b) Birth certificate: If the determination of the mother or father cannot be obtained from a valid identity/passport document of the international student, this document should also be submitted.
c) Consent and birth certificate must be authenticated through “apostille”.
There are certain important issues related to certificate of consent and birth certificate. These documents in need of approval, documents are required to be authenticated through "Apostille". The original document with Apostille is accepted and processed together with notarized Turkish translation.
